They have an opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to join their Financial Services team. You will be responsible for supporting the Financial Accountant in producing monthly management information as well as year-end annual statutory financial statements and returns. You will assist with maintaining robust internal controls while preparing and monitoring MaPS’ balance sheet. Alongside this, you will be preparing VAT returns and developing your knowledge to comply with the UK VAT Legislation, with an aim to become the subject matter specialist. Job description The Assistant Accountant will report directly to Financial Accountant. In this role you will be responsible for the following; Responsible for month end, quarterly and annual processes for Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Cash Book, and general ledger in the finance system. Preparing accruals and prepayment schedules in conjunction with the FBPs team. Preparing journals for loading into the General Ledger - recharge journals, reanalysis etc and supporting the Financial Accountant in preparing the monthly management information. Responsible for monthly balance sheet reconciliations for the assigned codes. Maintaining and updating the Fixed/Intangible Asset registers and depreciation schedules. Communicate complex financial information to non-financial senior staff. Support the preparation of the annual review and financial statements and associated returns. Ensure staff are aware and adhere to our financial policies and procedures and delegated authority. Assist the Financial Accountant in maintaining appropriate internal controls over financial and management information. Responsible for maintaining processes and procedures relating to VAT, reviewing VAT transactions, and preparing VAT returns. Assisting the Financial Services team to deliver any project assigned to the team. Acting up to provide cover for the Financial Accountant, when required. Any other tasks as required within the Finance Department. Person specification You will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience; Part qualified accountant of one of the professional accountancy bodies – CCAB or CIMA or AAT Solid financial and management accounting skills and considerable experience in supporting financial reporting function under IFRS/UK GAAP. Advanced Excel User while comfortable in utilising v-lookups, sum-ifs, and pivot tables Excellent organisational skills and experience of working under tight deadlines. Most of our roles can operate on a hybrid basis with a minimum of 2 days in the office per week.
