We are looking for a person to fill a vacancy that has arisen in the Groundskeeping Team at our award-winning Zoo, East Anglia’s premier tourist attraction. The right person for this job must enjoy working both indoors and outside, you will work in all seasonal weather conditions, and must want to work to promote and achieve the high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in our public areas that Colchester Zoo demands for our guests. You will have early starts, and work can involve evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. The work involves a lot of walking, lifting and bending, and you will have to wear uniform and protective clothing as requested. This job is not just cleaning work – it is cleaning in the wonderful surroundings and environment of Colchester Zoo and we are looking for the right person to join our team! JOB TITLE: CLEANER PUBLIC SPACES - TOILETS AND CHANGING ROOMS Colchester Zoo is home to over 160 species and is dedicated to supporting conservation projects around the globe. As an award-winning visitor attraction with over a million guests visiting each year, every staff member at the zoo works together to ensure that our guests have an enjoyable and unforgettable experience. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES To liaise with Supervisor and other team members to perform the required daily operations and any public washrooms and changing facilities as deemed appropriate. Working across the site to deliver excellent standards whilst ensuring work is completed on time. Cleaning public spaces (toilets and changing rooms) including - • restocking soap paper dispensers. • make sure all consumables (hand soaps, toilet rolls and hand towels) are replenished as required. • emptying rubbish bins. • cleaning all sinks, floors, taps mirrors and sanitizing fixtures. cleaning and sanitising partition doors, handles and walls. • sweeping and mopping tiled areas and floors. cleaning toilets and urinals. • To ensure all necessary and appropriate standards have been implemented and are operating in accordance with the company’s Health & Safety Policy. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Punctual, hard-working and able to use own initiative • A highly motivated individual • Time management - being flexible to requirements of routines and emergency situations • Excellent and clear communication skills • Ability to work collaboratively within a team • To work calmly and effectively • Knowledge of health and safety compliance • Maintenance of records relating to tasks performed, timesheets, materials and equipment. • Ability to interact positively and professionally with the public, and colleagues EXPERIENCE Ideally you should have some experience of cleaning work, however this is not essential as full training will be given. WORKING HOURS This is a permanent full-time position 5 days per week (the post may be considered as job share if suitable applications are received). You will be expected to work weekends, public holidays and school holidays. Pay rate – to be discussed at interview and subject to successful completion of a three-month probation period.
