This role will report to Matthew Purcell, Partner and Head of Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department. This position will be based at our office in EC4Y, with hybrid working in place.Job type: PermanentPosition: Paralegal / Trainee / NQSalary: Market RateHours: 9:30-17:30 Monday to Friday.Closing date: 21 August 2023Job descriptionTo assist in the progression of client files through undertaking legal case work – both chargeable and non-chargeable, with supervision as appropriate. Such case work could include:Reviewing and responding to New Client EnquiriesRoutine and non-routine correspondenceDrafting documentsConducting legal researchAttending client meetingsProducing bundles of documents for court, for counsel or other parties to litigationAttending court to take an accurate record of proceedingsAttending conferences with counsel and taking an accurate record of the conferenceAttending court to issue documentation and attending parties to litigation to serve documentationTo ensure that your time is recorded when undertaking chargeable work on a client file and evidence this by an attendance note, to achieve a personal chargeable time target reflective of the level of role you hold within the business. (Paralegals and Trainees 4 hours per day. NQ’s 5.5 hours per day).Significantly contributing to the firm’s marketing activities. This will include drafting articles and press releases for publication on the firm’s website and external publications.Taking initial details of new client enquiries and ensuring these are accurately recorded onto the ‘Monday’ system, informing any relevant fee earners as appropriate.Paralegals are asked to assist with covering for the reception desk during periods of absence and providing support to reception by answering incoming calls as required whether covering reception or not.Opening files as instructed by fee earners using the case management system and ensuring that the firm’s file opening and AML procedure is accurately followed.To organise photocopying of material as requested.To book appointments as and when requested of you by fee earners in your Department, to include maintaining their diary where appropriate.To ensure that your Department’s central and individual fee earner diaries record professional appointments, hearing dates and limitation periods. When requested to do so, to ensure that the central diaries are fully maintained.To ensure that all relevant reminders are entered into the diary system in a timely manner with sufficient notice to the fee earners.To take messages and assist clients where possible. Dealing with queries from clients, contacts, Courts and any other such body as and when required to assist your Department and to deal with any immediate problems relating to a client matters where appropriate. Liaison with Courts and Counsel regarding listing of cases.To liaise with the Finance Department upon the requisition of cheques and payments and disbursements and any other routine accounting matters. Also, with regard to any billing enquiries.To arrange to have done any matters necessary for the proper discharge of the firm’s responsibilities to its clients. To seek supervision from a Partner or other fee earner when matters arise which are, or may be, beyond your competenceNot to incur liabilities, particularly disbursements which are unlikely to be recovered.To ensure that all matters are billed and archived promptly, and that disbursements due to others are paid promptly on receipt of funds.To undertake such training as necessary for you to be familiar with and able to operate the office computer systems which relate to your duties and maintenance of those systems.To be familiar with the procedures documented in the office manual, staff handbook and with the requirements of the SRA and any other relevant body.To attend internal meetings as and when required.To have basic knowledge of computer generated reports such as posting ledgers and the basic understanding of the general accounts procedures including understanding a client ledger, handling cheques, paying disbursements and billing.Producing reports using the firm’s case management software as and when requested.Inter-personal skills and experience are required for dealing with enquiries in a courteous and efficient manner and ability to organise and prioritise.Any other duties that can be competently performed as reasonably requested.Person SpecificationMinimum 1 year experience in a Commercial Litigation role.Completed the LPC with merit or distinction.Excellent academic results.Excellent professional approach and client handling skills.Excellent literacy skills.Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.Excellent attention to detail.IT Literate.Team player.BenefitsPrivate medical schemeHybrid workingExternal training /eventsFor paralegals there is career development (progression to NQ role after at least one year as a paralegal)Social eventsChristmas (office closed)Job Type: PermanentSalary: From £24,500.00 per yearBenefits:Casual dressPrivate medical insuranceWork from homeSchedule:Monday to FridayAbility to commute/relocate:London: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)Experience:Paralegal: 1 year (preferred)Work Location: Hybrid remote in LondonApplication deadline: 21/08/2023
