Grower – Vegetable productionGrowing @ Field 28 is a 6-acre family-owned site based in Daresbury, Cheshire. The site grows specialist herbs, flowers and vegetables from its indoor led growing rooms and a 3-acre market garden. We sell to home customers through a box scheme and operate an onsite farm shop, whilst working directly with high quality chefs in the north-west and across the country including supplying our own Chester based restaurant with the very best quality fresh produce throughout the year.We are a very friendly team who look after our site with a passion and to help support our future growth plans, and to fill a vacancy arising from a senior grower returning home, we are seeking an experienced, highly motivated and enthusiastic senior grower along with an equally enthusiastic assistant grower to work across all aspects of the site. The Lead Grower will work to deliver seasonal growing plans and support the team during harvest and field work, managing team members to operate the day to day running of the indoor and outdoor growing areas.A successful candidate will have good experience in a commercial growing environment, a detailed understanding of mixed vegetable production and good knowledge of propagation and plant raising. Alongside the need for production of copious amounts of fresh produce, the perfect candidate will always be mindful of the need to tend and improve the quality of the land that we are working.Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday and one Saturday in rotation with other team members. We operate flexible working hours that suit the needs of our employees and the business through the seasons.Key Responsibilities- Working to create seasonal growing plans- Managing indoor and outdoor growing environments.- Keeping both the indoor and outdoor areas of the farm clean and well ordered.- Leading the team during day-to-day operations in the indoor and outdoor growing areas.- Leading assistant growers with crop work to include planting, weed control and watering.- Teaching assistant growers across a range of horticultural areas- Liaising from chefs and wholesalersPersonal SpecificationEssential- Minimum 5 years experience of commercial growing/horticulture for senior grower- 1 year minimum experience for assistant grower.- Good knowledge of propagation and plant growth.- Extensive knowledge of mixed vegetable production.- Experience in a market garden setting.- Experience in harvesting and conditioning for selling to retail and restaurants.- Proficient in use of garden machinery including walking tractors.- The ability to carry out horticultural tasks quickly and efficiently.- An active interest in small scale growing and food.- The ability to communicate well with team members and the general public.- Physically fit with the ability to work in all weathers.- Clean Driving License.Desirable- Experience growing and working with cut flowers.- Background in the food industry.- Experience in organic food production.Job Types: Full-time, PermanentJob Type: Full-timeSalary: £24,000.00-£28,000.00 per yearBenefits:Company pensionOn-site parkingStore discountSchedule:Monday to FridayWeekend availabilityWork Location: In personJobs Advertisement
