About the Role Are you seeking a role where you can combine your nursing assessment skills, compassion and professionalism? Then experience General Practice as it should be at Fakenham Medical Practice ! Only 10 minutes from Norfolk’s Champagne Coast. We have a fantastic opportunity for a locum nurse to help cover maternity leave, on a full-time basis for 37 hours per week, between the hours of 6.45am-8pm Mon-Fri and 8.30am-5pm Saturday, in a shift pattern. We advocate a healthy work-life balance and more time with your patients building relationships and continuity of care. You will be assisting the on the day duty team in managing a group of patients providing clinical skills which include communicating with them, assessing their immediate and future care needs, and providing specialist clinical knowledge to aid their recovery and enhance their well-being. The wide range of clinical activities seen by nurses in primary care means that you will be exposed to a diverse range of nursing specialisms: urgent medicine, orthopaedics, paediatrics, oncology, bariatrics and cardiac to name but a few. We have no mandatory weekend or night shifts so you can plan your life outside of work around your working week. With a diverse and experienced multidisciplinary team around for support, doctor first triage and a fantastic administrative team in place to help streamline workloads, you can really focus on what truly needs your attention. As a nurse at FMP, you will see that putting patients first and maintaining the highest clinical governance standards are our top priority. Our nurses understand that what they do at work makes a real positive difference, so they take pride in the highest clinical standards. The purpose of the role is to support the provision of first-class healthcare to patients, by following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate, particularly: Telephone triage, to assess and treat patients with minor injuries and minor illness according to approved protocols and guidelines Duty Nurse, seeing assessing treating minor injuries/illness Prescribe medication Cytology Wound care Removal of sutures ECGs Venepuncture Hypertension management COPD/asthma management Diabetes management Routine immunisations/childhood immunisations Assist with achieving QOF targets Request pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs The successful candidate will support the nursing and wider practice team and undertake a variety of duties that contribute to the efficient and effective running of the practice, particularly: Use the practice clinical system (SystmOne) to process and record information in an accurate and timely fashion in accordance with Practice policies and procedures. Facilitate excellent communication between patients, clinicians care and other associated healthcare professionals/agencies. Undertake home visits as and when required. Follow appropriate infection control procedures. Participate in annual flu clinics and Covid vaccination programme Act as chaperone when requested by clinician or patient. About the Candidate All applicants should have the following qualifications, registrations, skills and experience: A relevant nursing degree. Current NMC registration with an active PIN. Prescribing qualification Previous experience in the NHS in a healthcare setting. Competence to undertake asthma, COPD and diabetic clinics and reviews, holding relevant certificates. Broad clinical knowledge base Compassionate manner with an empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work. Knowledge, and experience of its application, in supporting long-term conditions. Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS. About Us The Fakenham Medical Practice is a nine-doctor dispensing practice providing care to around 15,000 patients in and around Fakenham in North Norfolk. We work from modern, purpose-built premises. The partners and staff have a shared belief in the delivery of high quality, traditional personal family healthcare. Patients interests are kept very much to the fore and there is a strong commitment to develop patient services. To promote a multi-disciplinary team approach, we share our premises with other providers including a pharmacy, adult social services, and local community services e.g., physiotherapy and midwifery. The practice is part of Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board and has a branch surgery at Walsingham. We are a training practice for GP trainees.
