Job title: Receptionist Contract: Permanent, part time – 3 days per week Salary: £23,806 plus £3,954 London Weighting Allowance per annum pro rata (£14,454 plus £2,401 London Weighting Allowance for 3 days) Location: Victoria animal hospital, London SW1V 1QQ Closing date: Sunday 27 August 2023 Interview date: Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 (am) September 2023 We’re recruiting a Receptionist to join our Victoria animal hospital team – a team that recently one our Blue Cross team of the year award! Our Blue Cross hospitals provide veterinary treatment for animals belonging to those people whose financial circumstances do not allow them to afford private veterinary fees. More about the role Receptionists have a key role in the fast-paced hospitals, ensuring effective delivery of our services and the best outcome for our patients and their owners. They do this by providing the highest level of customer service with a non-judgmental mindset in all situations, this will be over the phone, face to face and through other media such as live web chats. They are the link between our clients and the veterinary team and can build relationships with clients, their pets and all members of the hospital teams. If you like variety then this is the role for you, each day will see you providing a friendly welcoming service, supporting clients with queries while demonstrating a high level of resilience and ability to diffuse initial situations, often in the face of high stress and emotive circumstances. Supporting clients who may be distressed or need additional support through telephone and face to face queries in a calm, professional and friendly manner. The ability to assess the appropriate solutions for their pets and adapt to a variety of our client’s needs and communications styles is an integral responsibility of the role. You will have a genuine desire to improve the lives of pets and their clients and be proactive in the promotion and delivery of Blue Cross aims. This is a part-time role of 25.5 hours over three days per week on a rota basis covering weekends, evenings and late shifts, nights, bank holidays and on call. Due to the nature of the work of Blue Cross, and this post, it may be necessary to exceed these hours when the workload demands. About you The ideal candidate for this role is someone that has great communication skills and able to speak to a wide variety of people and used to working in a busy reception environment. Working in an animal hospital can involve supporting clients that are distressed, therefore, you will be able to work in an emotionally charged environment and have excellent ‘bounce back ability’ and resilience, with ability to keep calm under pressure and re-prioritise tasks where needed. This person will be emotionally intelligent, showing empathy and knowing how to support clients and colleagues. Knowledge, skills, and experience Experience of working in a busy reception/front of house environment Strong communication skills, both written and verbal Strong numerical skills Ability to interact face to face with clients and visitors and communicate effectively with a range of people IT literate with MS Office and web-based databases and platforms The ability to demonstrate, understanding and apply our Blue Cross values Desirable qualifications, skills, and experience An understanding of basic animal welfare Previous experience of a busy hospital/clinic environment Experience working with appointment booking systems.
