Job description
Our mission is to push the boundaries of complex cell analysis. Using the Lightcast platform we are working with major pharmaceutical companies and leading academic institutes. Together, using our next generation microfluidic platform, we are making advances towards new science, unique clinical approaches, new therapies and innovative products. The Lightcast platform allows precise and highly flexible independent control of thousands of microdroplets independently and in parallel using software-generated light patterns. By combining droplets containing different cells, antibodies, cancer drugs, reporters and /or other reagents we can perform complex workflows and assays with a flexibility far beyond what is currently possible on any cell analysis platform. At the core of the system is a bespoke microfluidic / optoelectronic device and a set of microfluidic components with complex, critical interdependencies. We are seeking an experienced fluidics engineer with broad ranging technical abilities who has can contribute to many aspects the product development process for our microfluidic consumables. About the role Lightcast is currently preparing for an intense commercial phase in the pharma, biotech and academic markets later in 2023 with a major product launch. The patented chip technology has a roadmap of future releases to address a rapidly growing market segment, offering a range of innovative bio-tools instruments. Based on site in our Cambridge Headquarters and reporting into the R&D development team, this role takes the lead and owns the development of the next generation microfluidic consumable to scale-up the throughput, and build upon the learnings from the current generation microfluidic device. The technical aspects of the role will cover design & prototyping of the next generation microfluidic device, improving on the current generation device, management of key interactions with suppliers, oversight of supply chain & early manufacturing. This is a highly cross functional role working closely with instrumentation, optics, fluidics, MEMS micro-fabrication, chemistry and biology teams, and therefore relies on a good understanding of fundamental sciences to deliver a robust product. Your responsibilities will include: Technical lead on the design ownership, drive design & prototyping of microfluidic devices Fluid mechanics / flow analysis driven design using theoretical or published knowledge Design and performing experiments to evaluate & iterate the device design systematically to meet customer needs. Developing improvements to the Lightcast microfluidic devices. Developing test, metrology and QC techniques that span from R&D to production Running and delivering the verification and validation program for the Lightcast microfluidic products.
