Job description
The Role As a Backend Programmer on Total War, you will be asked to own and architect the online gameplay for an unannounced Total War project. You will work with our in-house Live Services team to implement the gameplay component online service. The project is based at our headquarters in Horsham, in the heart of West Sussex, however this role may be based either in Horsham, or at CA North in Newcastle, UK. This can be discussed upon application. The successful candidate for this role will be an excellent communicator and implementer, dealing with projects from inception to delivery. Flexible working at Creative Assembly includes hybrid, fully remote within country of employment for eligible roles, and in-studio. We recognise that there is no one-size-fits-all approach and empower our teams to define the working patterns which work best for them, which may mean different things for different teams and roles and at different times. This role can be offered as hybrid with an expectation of at least 2 days per week in our Horsham or Newcastle studio. Further details can be discussed during the recruitment process. What you’ll be doing On a day-to-day basis, you will: Work to deliver an exciting unannounced Total War with brand new IP Develop the architecture and implementation for the gameplay component of our online services for Total War Be proactive and provide implementation solutions for design-led requirements to the relevant members of the team Work with our in-house online services team to align with our wider stack of online services Help to grow the backend programming skillset within the wider Total War franchise team. What we are looking for Strong programming and system design skills Experience of working on server-side, API-driven projects with online databases Previous experience with a cloud service (such as Amazon's AWS) or virtualized environment Ability to clearly communicate using a variety of methods to enable effective collaboration Experience of working in both Windows and Linux environments Proactive and enthusiastic approach to work Methodical approach to software development High level of interest in learning in general, but particularly in learning new technologies and programming languages for software development Knowledge of and experience with playfab. Optional Extras Mentoring experience Python development experience Experience of working with systems at scale Experience working with open authentication standards, Big Data Development experience and passion for online video games Avid Gamer and fan of Total War.
