About the RoleWe're really excited to be recruiting for a committed Life Underwriter to join our established team, on a permanent basis.You'll report directly to a manager based at our Exeter office, and, although this will be your office base, we're happy to chat to experienced Underwriters who are comfortable working from home, with occasional visits to the office when required (around 3 visits per year expected if you are working remotely, plus initial 2-3 weeks in the office for training, with travel and accommodation costs covered). You're also welcome to work from our Bournemouth or Hitchin offices if you are more local to either of those.You’ll still be part of a wider team and have all the support you need, so whether you’re on the doorstep of the office or a bit further away, let’s talk about what an opportunity here could look like for you.About YouOur ideal candidate will...Be an experienced underwriter, with a background covering Life, Critical Illness and/or Income Protection claims (you will have gained this experience in a similar role, and be looking for a new challenge to further develop your skills and experience)Have proven experience in underwriting large cases with high sums assured (highly desirable)Be trustworthy, with the ability to work to your own initiative, as well as within a teamPossess excellent time management skills and an awareness of the SLA’s and KPI’s requiredBe an excellent communicator, comfortable in building rapport with customers and stakeholdersConsistently be professional and approachable, ensuring that each customer’s journey with us is exemplaryHave good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and a demonstrable ability to use bespoke systems (full training will be given on our internal platform)Be educated to A Level standard or equivalent (desirable)Have a genuine passion for underwriting and a willingness to share your knowledge and suggestionsNaturally develop strong analytical skillsBe driven to develop and grow within the rolePossess evidenced completion of CII (desirable)Key ResponsibilitiesAssessing and accepting or declining applications for life, critical illness, and disability insurance, in accordance with philosophyCommunicating with customers to gather further information where requiredTaking part in underwriting rules development, analysis of management information, and implementation of rule engine changesWorking as part of a team to review the department’s processes and procedures, ensuring SLA’s are metAchieving targeted productivity and quality levelsMaintaining your own up-to-date medical knowledge to sufficiently process the underwritingConsistently complying with all regulatory and statutory standards and controls.Why Work for UsHere at LV= Life and Pensions we always love to hear from great people, so don’t forget to follow us on Instagram, Twitter, LinkedInand become a fan on Facebook.
